This is a unique opportunity to learn about assisted natural regeneration of rainforest environments. Assisted natural regeneration is considered to be the most efficient way of restoring rainforest environments. When weed species are removed and/or controlled, it creates space for new rainforest plants to sprout, either from the existing seed bank or from seeds dispersed by perching birds. A small amount of saplings may be also planted to infill areas where needed.
We are looking for 4 volunteers in each project location to commit to four consecutive fortnights. You will be working with the leading experts in this technique. If you’re considering a career in bush regeneration this would be a great addition to your resumé.
Date range: October to November 2024
Time: 8 - 1pm
Wilsons Creek, Northern NSW: Wednesdays, every fortnight - 4 places available
Goonengerry, Northern NSW: Thursdays, every fortnight - 4 places available
Please complete the RSVP below and tick "I want to volunteer" so that you are properly registered.
This volunteer opportunity is part of the “Restoration and Linkages of Wilsons and Coopers Creeks” project being delivered by Goonengerry Landcare, and “Upper Wilsons and Coopers Creek Catchments: Restoring Rainforest in Times of Change" being delivered by Wilsons Creek Huonbrook Landcare Group. Both projects are funded by the NSW Environment Trust, and contributed to by Rainforest Rangers.
